A 2011-2012 fellow, Avner interns at the Israel Antitrust Authority.

Prior to the fellows program, Avner accepted a summer research scholarship for excellent biology students and conducted research at Dr. Nissim Ben-Arie's laboratory of developmental neurogenetics. The research focuses on understanding the function of neuro-developmental genes to find new ways to help patients with Parkinson's disease.

Avner participated in the Young Entrepreneurs Program as a mentor to a group of high school students. Together they started a company and developed a novel product while Avner helped them learn the basics of the business world. His group earned the regional "Best Product" award and qualified for nationals at two competitions.

In the military, Avner served as a clinic sergeant in charge of all other medics and staff at the Palmachim Air Force Base. He received the Israeli Air Force "Medic of the Year" award in 2006.

Avner holds a B.Sc. cum laude in biology and business management and an MBA with a specialty in finance and banking, both from the Hebrew University.
